Waves was formed in January 2018, and started teaching lessons from April 2018. The company was founded by Carrie Morrison. Carrie had been involved in swim schools from a young age, starting water helping back in 2000, later going on to complete her ASA Level 1 Teaching Aquatics qualification. This was shortly followed by her ASA Level 2 Teaching Aquatics, along with completing her RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teacher & Coaches. At this point she began her teaching career. Having successfully run Sandhurst Swim School for 5 years before starting Waves, the two swim schools then merged in April 2020 under Waves Swim & Fitness.
In 2017, Carrie wanted to add to her Aquatic knowledge and after attending Aqua Aerobic classes herself, decided to qualify as an Aqua Aerobics Instructor and now teaches 3 classes a week to adults. A year later she also completed her training to be able to offer these classes to pre and post-natal women, as Aqua is one of the best forms of exercise for pregnant ladies. The following year, she was one of the first to qualify in Junior Aqua and Aqua Pilates.
Most recently, Carrie has become a probationary Trainer Assessor with the Royal Life Saving Society to allow her to train, deliver and assess RLSS lifesaving qualifications.
Carrie recognises the importance of learning to swim but also providing a safe environment in which to do so. This is why she has chosen to represent the RLSS as a Trainer Assessor and continue to update her knowledge in order to maintain her qualification.
Carrie holds the following qualifications:
- STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming
- ASA Level 2 in Teaching Aquatics
- ASA Level 1 in Teaching Aquatics
- Water Fitness Aqua Instructor
- Hydro Actif Aqua Pilates
- AREA Aqua Natal Aerobics
- AREA Aqua Stretch therapy
- Water Fitness Junior Aqua Instructor
- RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches
- RLSS National Pool Lifeguard
- STA Safeguarding for Children & Vulnerable Adults
- RLSS Trainer Assessor
- WaterPhobia Coach
Carrie is supported in the day-to-day running of the swim school by Emily, who is a STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher, and holds the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. She is also STA Baby & Pre-School qualified and has completed her WaterPhobia training.
We have a team of over 20 staff made up of Session Supervisors, Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Lifeguards, Water Helpers and Receptionists.
All of our teachers are fully qualified Level 2 teachers, all holding a recognised lifesaving qualification by the STA or RLSS. They all regularly update their Safeguarding certificate as well as renewing their Enhanced DBS every 3 years. They are encouraged to seek CPD opportunities and regularly attend in-house training by an RLSS TA to keep their lifesaving knowledge up to date.
We have a regular team of teaching staff, the majority of which have been with us for a minimum of 3-10 years, this helps us to retain swimmers by offering them continuity.
Since starting Waves in 2018, the swim school has more than doubled in size, offering a variety of lessons originally to children aged 3.5 years and up, to adults, and now with the addition of our Baby & Pre-school lessons last year, we are able to start introducing children to the water from 4 months of age.
Waves use the STA International Learn to Swim Programme in order for you to record your child’s progress and to share their achievement. We provide high quality swimming lessons in a friendly environment, teaching children the four main strokes whilst building on technique, improving stamina, and introducing other core aquatic skills such as water confidence, diving, and personal survival. The STA International Learn to Swim Programme allows children to progress through the classes based on their individual swimming ability, without having to complete a stage before they are able to move up a class. All of our classes are monitored throughout the course of the term, so children do not necessarily have to wait until the following term before they can move up into the next group.
For children who wish to transfer from a swim school that have been using the Swim England programme, this is not a problem. We will discuss your child’s level with you and if we feel we need some more information then we shall invite them for a free assessment to ensure they are placed in the correct class.
We predominately work serving the residents of Yateley and Sandhurst and surrounding areas. We are not a nationwide swim school and get to know our clients on an individual basis in order to tailor the lessons to their individual needs so they can benefit from their lessons. We are delighted that the majority of our customers come through personal recommendation, so for more information, please do not hesitate in contacting us.

As well as offering swimming tuition to all ages, we also offer water fitness and therapy sessions.
Unlike a leisure centre, we have exclusive use of the facilities we hire for lessons and classes, which our Adult clients in particular much prefer.
